Dr Douglas Cox MBChB FRANZCO
Dr Douglas Cox is a specialist refractive surgeon. A University of Otago graduate in medicine he completed his Ophthalmology training in the United Kingdom’s Royal Eye Hospital in 1970, where he became a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and subsequently a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand college of Opthalmologists.

Dr Cox returned to Hamilton, New Zealand, to open a private practice in 1971, becoming a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Waikato Hospital the same year. During this time, Dr Cox developed a subspecialty in corneal and anterior segment surgery and became one of New Zealand's most experienced corneal transplant surgeons.

In 1991, Dr Cox commenced work in the field of refractive surgery. He started work in laser refractive surgery in 1994 and became the founding director and medical director of Lazersight in Hamilton. Since then, Dr Cox has performed over 8000 refractive procedures including over 5000 LASIK procedures since 1999. During his career, Dr Cox was the president of Ophthalmological Society of NZ and is a Trustee and director of the N.Z national eye bank.

Dr Michael Merriman MBChB FRANZCO
Graduated from Auckland Medical School in 1990 and completed his Ophthalmic Specialist training at Auckland and Waikato Hospitals in 2001. Additional experience achieved in Fellowship training in the UK at the West of England Eye Unit and then Fellowships at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London gaining further expertise in glaucoma, cataract and refractive surgery.

He has completed research projects which have been published in international journals and presents papers at local and international meetings. Since 2004 he has been based in Hamilton. He is a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Waikato Hospital, and has a private practice at Hamilton Eye Clinic and a refractive surgeon at Bridgewater Laser Eye Surgery.

Mr Anton Frank
Anton Frank graduated as an Optometrist in Austria in 1986, where he also gained a Diploma in Contact Lens Practice. After completing post graduate studies in Germany and the US, he has been awarded a Masters Degree in Clinical Optometry from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry USA in 1997.

He was the first Optometrist in continental Europe being awarded the European Diploma in Optometry. In 2006 he gained a Certificate in Ocular Pharmacology from the Department of Optometry and Vision Science, University of Auckland, New Zealand. He moved from Austria to (lovely) New Zealand in 2002 and joined Dr. Doug Cox in Feb. 2003, assisting with clinical assessments. He also works in private optometric practice in Hamilton.
